He said the bill was against the interests of minorities. Trinamool Congress MP Saugat Roy also opposed the bill.

Although Amit Shah, on this day, has claimed that the bill is not against minorities. All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MP Badruddin Ajmal staged a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi just before the bill was tabled.

The cabinet gave the bill a few days ago. The amended bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha last January. It was said that Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists and Christian people from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, who are refugees in this country, will be given citizenship.
