It is also the first Grand Slam of Sofia’s career. Both players reached the final of the Australian Open for the first time. After losing the first set from the 26-year-old player Garbiñe Muguruza, Sofia returned to a domineering manner, and everyone became crazy.

After this win, Sofia not only got 2.8 million US dollars (Rs 20 crore) but her ranking also increased from 14th to seventh. Sofia Kenin, who reached the finals after defeating world number one Ashleigh Barty, had dreamed of winning the Grand Slam at the age of five.

This was the second match between Sofia Kenin and Garbiñe Muguruza, and both times the American player won. The previous match was won by Kenin at the China Open. Sofia won her first WTA title in Hobart earlier in the year and also won two more titles during the season.

The final was not even imagined by tennis lovers who were considering Serena Williams as a strong contender before the tournament. 21-year-old Kenin proved to be the ‘Giant Killer’ in a tournament full of upsets as she now surpassed Serena to become America’s number one player.
