Jasprit Bumrah Receives Polly Umrigar Award in BCCI Awards 2020 Ceremony


Jasprit Bumrah Receives The Polly Umrigar Award: Indian cricket team’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was awarded the prestigious Polly Umrigar Award at the annual awards of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Bumrah was awarded this honor for his outstanding performance in international cricket in 2018-19. The performance for the award was taken into consideration from October 1, 2018, to September 30, 2019.


During this period, Jasprit Bumrah was awarded for taking the most wickets in Tests and Cheteshwar Pujara was given the Dilip Sardesai Award for scoring the most runs. Bumrah took 34 wickets in six matches with three five-wicket hauls. Bumrah was also given a check of 15 lakhs along with the trophy.

Poonam Yadav, who was recently awarded the Arjuna Award, was given the highest award of the women’s category. In addition, 15-year-old Haryana’s Shefali Verma was honored for her brilliant debut.


Former India captain Chris Srikkanth and Anjum Chopra were awarded the Colonel CK Naidu Lifetime Achievement Award. Anjum is also the first Indian woman player to play 100 ODIs. In her 17-year career, Anjum has represented India in 4 World Cups.

Jasprit took 73 wickets in 30 matches

Bumrah made his Test debut against South Africa in 2019. He took 5 wickets against South Africa, England, Australia, and West Indies. Bumrah became the first Asian bowler to do so. During this period, Bumrah took 73 wickets in 30 matches. Jasprit Bumrah also played an important role in the historic Test series won 2–1 against Australia. Test hat-trick against West Indies and took 13 wickets in two matches.

Bumrah took 21 wickets in four matches against Australia in January last year

Shafali scored 222 runs in nine matches

Shefali scored 222 runs in nine T20 matches last year. Along with this, she will be given the Jagmohan Dalmia Award for exceptional performance in junior domestic cricket in the 2018-19 season. She has scored a total of 1923 runs in 46 matches domestic matches including ODIs and T20s including seven centuries and five fifties.

Poonam took 14 wickets in 8 ODIs

Poonam Yadav of Agra took 24 wickets in limited-overs cricket last year. Ten wickets in 14 ODIs and 14 T20s in eight ODIs. Smriti Mandhana and Jhulan Goswami were also honored for scoring the most runs in women’s cricket.
